Phoenix Sylvestris, also known as date palm, indian date, sugar date palm or wild date palm, is a species of flowering plant in the palm family.

Sylvester palms are hardy to USDA zone 8 and can tolerate temperatures as low as 9 degrees Fahrenheit.

Sylvester Palms are  drought tolerant. They are also moderately salt tolerant.

Sylvester Palms grow well in almost any well drained soil, including sand. They grow best in direct sunlight with room to grow.

Sylvester Palms thrive on regular light watering and regular feeding. Add top soil or peat humus to the hole when planting. Fertilize 3 times a year - in spring summer and autumn - with a quality palm fertilizer containing micronutrients.

Sylvester Palms grows up to 40-50 feet.

They stay low to the ground while young, eventually growing an attractive trunk with diamond-shaped leaf-base scars. You can have this "diamond cut" done by a pro to get the best results.
